Osteopathic Treatment
S$120 for first consultation / $100 for subsequent treatments

Our fully qualified professional osteopaths employ a range of osteopathic manipulation techniques (OMT) from both classical and modern schools of osteopathy. These include:
    •    Minimum adjustment technique
    •    Cranial osteopathy (popularly known as cranial sacral therapy)
    •    Muscle energy technique
    •    Strain and counterstrain

Osteopathic treatment is non-invasive, painless and safe. Only the skilled hands of a trained osteopath are used for manipulation and no mechanical devices or machines are employed.

The treatment usually involves a relaxation of relevant muscles and gentle work on joints to improve movement and mobility. Each treatment is customized to suit the patient’s needs.

As osteopathy is a holistic approach to health, the osteopath may also advise on ways to modify lifestyle to prevent further problems. The osteopath may also suggest simple exercises that can help in the healing process.

Depending on the problem, most patients will receive maximum benefit from five to seven treatments. Some require as few as one or two treatment sessions. However those with serious problems - such as scoliosis or abnormal curvature of the spine, or children with physical and intellectual developmental problems - may require regular treatment over several months.

Each treatment session typically lasts 20 to 30 minutes. The osteopath will spend as much time as is needed by the patient, but will not prolong the treatment session unnecessarily.
Finally, the osteopath may refer the patient to other health practitioners such as:

    •    Chiropodist for foot related problems
    •    Acupuncturist for pain relief
    •    Homeopath for common ailments
    •    Naturopath for natural healing process through natural remedies
    •    Clinical nutritionist for diet related ailments
    •    Remedial massage practitioner for muscle relaxation
    •    Kinesiologist for functional and developmental problems
    •    Hypnotherapist for psychological problems such as phobia

The services of these other practitioners are offered by the Centre for Complementary and Alternative Medicine (CCAM) an associate company of Osteopathic Treatment Centre.

WHAT IS OSTEOPATHY?

Osteopathy is a form of manipulation therapy, or manual therapy.

An osteopath works only with his / her hands, using a range of techniques, pressure, stretching, manipulation, etc. to correct imbalances in the body's musculoskeletal structure.

By restoring the body to balance, an osteopath is able to provide immediate and long term pain relief.

Osteopathy is widely recognized as an effective treatment for a wide range of aches and pain, including:

Headache & migraine
Stiff neck
Whiplash injuries
"Frozen" or stiff shoulders
Trapped nerve
Arm pain
Tennis elbow
Wrist and hand pain
Lower back pain
Back pain during pregnancy
Slipped disc
Hip, thigh and knee problems
Calf, shin, ankle, foot pain
Sciatica
Scoliosis or spinal curvature
Arthritis pain / stiffness
Sports injuries.

As body functions are related to the musculoskeletal structure, an osteopath is also able to correct functional disorders such as:

In the US, UK, Australia and many European countries, osteopaths are mainstream healthcare practitioners, Osteopathic healthcare qualifies for insurance reimbursement in most countries, including Singapore. Osteopathic treatment is gentle, painless and safe. Throughout the history of osteopathy, ever since it was founded by Dr Andrew Taylor Still in 1872, there has never been any known case of death or serious injury resulting from osteopathic treatment.

For acute conditions, one or two treatments will usually provide relief. For chronic conditions, you may need regular treatments over a period of time. Osteopathy and chiropractic share a common philosophy about the importance of the spine. Osteopaths use a wider range of manipulation techniques than chiropractors.
