David Wells, Osteopath
BSc (Hons) Ost., Cert ICAK (UK)
Registered Osteopath and Applied Kinesiologist (UK)
David Wells qualified as an osteopath from the European School of Osteopathy in the UK in 2000.

In addition, he qualified in Applied Kinesiology in the UK in 2002.

He had been running his own osteopathic practice in the UK since 2000 before moving to Singapore, when he joined Osteopathic Treatment Centre.
“I use a wide variety of techniques, including cranial treatment, which can be very beneficial for the very young, the elderly, or those who are not keen on the 'clicks' associated with osteopathy. "

In addition, David practices Applied Kinesiology. This is not actually a treatment, but a system of diagnosis. It can be very beneficial for identifying less obvious causes of ill-health.

Applied Kinesiology is a manual, painless method of diagnosis and is therefore suitable for anyone, including babies, children, adults and the elderly.
Applied Kinesiology is commonly used for identifying food allergies or intolerances. It may also be used for diagnosing conditions such as digestive upset, migraine, repeat infections, fatigue, lack of energy, hormonal imbalances, weight loss and much more.

David is available for presentations and demonstrations of both Osteopathy and Applied Kinesiology..

If you are interested in postural advice for your workplace, arrangements can be made for David to visit your place of work to help correct postures on site.
Prior to being an osteopath, David worked in the UK as an engineer in the telecommunications industry.

He was active in many outdoor pursuits, such as cycle racing, kayaking, rock climbing, caving and para-gliding, amongst many others.

Inevitably, David sustained a few injuries during some of these activities, and this led to his interest in body mechanics and function. After fracturing his ankle during rock climbing, David decided t o return to college as a mature student to study osteopathy.
"Osteopathy, in fact, treats much more than mechanical problems and sports injuries,” David notes. "It was originally conceived as a complete system for disease prevention and the restoration to health.

“I try to stick closely to this philosophy in the treatments I give, by looking for the real causes of pain and ill-health.
For this reason, I regularly treat many conditions of ill-health over and above muscle and joint pains.

WHAT IS OSTEOPATHY?

Osteopathy is a form of manipulation therapy, or manual therapy.

An osteopath works only with his / her hands, using a range of techniques, pressure, stretching, manipulation, etc. to correct imbalances in the body's musculoskeletal structure.

By restoring the body to balance, an osteopath is able to provide immediate and long term pain relief.

Osteopathy is widely recognized as an effective treatment for a wide range of aches and pain, including:

Headache & migraine
Stiff neck
Whiplash injuries
"Frozen" or stiff shoulders
Trapped nerve
Arm pain
Tennis elbow
Wrist and hand pain
Lower back pain
Back pain during pregnancy
Slipped disc
Hip, thigh and knee problems
Calf, shin, ankle, foot pain
Sciatica
Scoliosis or spinal curvature
Arthritis pain / stiffness
Sports injuries.

As body functions are related to the musculoskeletal structure, an osteopath is also able to correct functional disorders such as:

In the US, UK, Australia and many European countries, osteopaths are mainstream healthcare practitioners, Osteopathic healthcare qualifies for insurance reimbursement in most countries, including Singapore. Osteopathic treatment is gentle, painless and safe. Throughout the history of osteopathy, ever since it was founded by Dr Andrew Taylor Still in 1872, there has never been any known case of death or serious injury resulting from osteopathic treatment.

For acute conditions, one or two treatments will usually provide relief. For chronic conditions, you may need regular treatments over a period of time. Osteopathy and chiropractic share a common philosophy about the importance of the spine. Osteopaths use a wider range of manipulation techniques than chiropractors.
